BUILDING ADHESIVES LTD SUPPORTS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK
Staff at tile adhesive manufacturer Building Adhesives Ltd have taken part in a number of initiatives as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2019.
Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, Mental Health Awareness Week is the UK's national week to raise awareness of mental health and mental health problems and inspire action to promote the message of good mental health for all.
Building Adhesives, based in Stoke-on-Trent, was involved with the Awareness Week in several ways; including inviting a member of the North Staffordshire NHS Community Neuropsychiatry Team, Alison Duffell, to come and talk to employees about Mental Health Awareness. Alison discussed points such as how to spot the signs and what resources are available for people if they have concerns about their own mental health or a friend or family member.
In addition, the company offered “mini-medicals” appointments to staff members via Hobson Health, plus one-on-ones with a financial advisor so staff can discuss any financial concerns.
During the week, the company’s HR department posted and shared lots of information and resources on various mental health topics.
The week concluded with a sponsored lunchtime walk – with employees paying an entry fee which is being donated to MIND charity.
Emma Aust, HR Director at Building Adhesives, said: “Research has shown that 16 million people experience a mental health problem each year, and businesses and individuals are, now more than ever, realising that it is important to talk about mental health and break down the stigma.
“Mental health is everyone's business. We all have times when we feel down or stressed or frightened. Most of the time those feelings pass, but sometimes they develop into a more serious problem and that could happen to any one of us.
“At Building Adhesives, we value the mental health of all our staff, which is why we put together this programme of events as part of Mental Health Awareness Week.
“We want all staff to recognise the signs of mental health problems with themselves, their colleagues or family and friends, and know where they can seek help.”
