JOHNSON TILES APPOINTS NEW STUDIO MANAGER FOR MATERIAL LAB

Sam Wood has been appointed Studio Manager of Johnson Tiles’ London deisgn resource studio and materials library, Material Lab.

Material Lab, a London design resource studio and materials library, has announced the appointment of Sam Wood as its studio manager.

An emerging talent in the architecture and design sector, Sam joins from industry heavyweight Wickes, where he built a name for himself through a keen eye for colour and a knack for identifying styles that appeal to both the trade community and end-users.

Founded in 2006 by Stoke-on-Trent based tile manufacturer Johnson Tiles, Material Lab offers the architecture and design community a chance to sample products from a wide range of material partners to suit any specification brief.

Since its conception, the studio has continued to grow, recently announcing the addition of partners EGGER, Norcros Adhesives and Metlex. They join a wealth of other high-profile brands, whose products are available to discover at the studio, including VADO, Dulux Trade and Johnson Tiles themselves.

Sam brings with him grand plans for the studio, including the creation of a space that champions the work of young and innovative designers, as well as sustainable building materials. A wealth of industry experience and contacts will see Sam continue Material Lab’s legacy as a creative, experiential hub for both the UK and wider global design community.

Nigel Stannard, Commercial Director at Johnson Tiles, commented: “Sam’s passion for interior design, coupled with his background in sourcing the very best materials, made him a fantastic choice for Material Lab.

“We are proud of the continued growth of the studio and the products it offers to the A&D community, particularly in a challenging economic climate, and are looking forward to seeing it reach new heights with Sam at the helm.”

On his appointment, Sam said: “I’ve always loved Material Lab as a resource that offers inspiration and a place to explore emerging industry trends. As studio manager, I want to change the way people look at the spaces in which we live, work, and dine.

“I have seen first-hand the positive psychological impact of great interior design, and can’t wait to help designers explore materials and possibilities that they may not have considered previously.”
