A stunning marble installation – spanning walls, floors and columns – has been completed at Harrods Shoe Heaven, by stoneCIRCLE, using a Mapei installation system. The prestigious project at the iconic London department store is part of an ongoing refurbishment by stoneCIRCLE, with the latest phase commissioned by Jaysam Contractors Ltd.
Originally opened in 2014, Harrods Shoes Heaven – a haven dedicated entirely to shoes – features over 50 designers and includes the season’s must-have shoes, rare collector’s editions and on-trend styles.
The current project includes extension of the fifth-floor department which now dedicates 42,000 square feet to footwear; the equivalent size of three Olympic swimming pools. The luxurious space was designed by London-based interior designers, David Collins Studio, and implemented by Architects, Woods Hardwick.
Marble finishes specified included a Crema Martel floor finish, featuring Grigio Stardust inlaid in interlocking geometric patterns and Nero Marquina borders. The floor joints were resin filled and the surface was ground to a honed finish after installation. Walls were clad with vein-cut Silver Travertine tiles, and fitted with Nero Marquina plinths. Silver Travertine was also used to clad columns, which were finished with delicate Nero Marquina detailing to match the existing finish in the original department. All fabrication was carried out at stoneCIRCLE’s Basingstoke workshop.
During installation, stoneCIRCLE used anti-fracture membrane, Mapetex System and flexible lightweight adhesive, Ultralite S1. The adhesive features a low dust, non-slip formulation and an extended open time – especially suited to a natural stone installation. It also contains over 30% of recycled material. stoneCIRCLE completed the installation with Mapei Ultracolor Plus colour reference 132 Beige 2000 – an anti-efflorescence, quick-setting and drying polymer-modified grout, with water-repellent DropEffect and mould-resistant BioBlock features - and mould-resistant silicone sealant, Mapesil LM.
